What do I think?
- I think the Paiute tribe can take care of and defend the wildlife refuge themselves. In case they need help, then this group of men can get involved to support.
- I believe the armed men are causing mostly negative effects with the local's lives such as the closing of schools for public safety.
- The two men that are in prison should also be released because they've had enough time incarcerated. I understand that they caused some land damage with the fire as well as putting people in danger, but they had good intentions. It just didn't result how they wanted.
Toxic Water in Flint, Michigan
What's in the water?
- Struggling town of Flint, Michigan switched to the Flint River from Lake Huron to save money.
- The switch has been happening for 2 years, but since 2011, the water from Flint, Michigan was discovered to contain lead.
- Flint water wasn't treated with anti-corrosive agent so it became contaminated with iron.
- The iron caused service lines made of lead to release lead into the water supply.
- After researchers discovered high levels of lead in water. -State officials insisted that there was nothing to worry about.
The hero doctor and long-term health consequences
- Dr. Hanna-Attisha found blood lead levels in toddlers really high.
- Sate had the information of levels in water but DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) had told there was nothing out of the ordinary.
- After discovering about the contamination, they switched to lake Huron but lead pipes were already damaged.
- Lead poisoning is irreversible -drop IQ -affect behavior
Who's to blame?
- Everyone blames the governor's office and DEQ.
- For not placing a dollar to fix the water, it caused huge devastation to the community.
What do I think?
- I think it is an irresponsibility to allow public to use and drink water with "few" contamination.
- Also, the state shouldn't have accepted and agreed to the DEQ's statement.
- However, I believe the DEQ is mainly responsible for this water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
- Now, they're wasting more money trying to fix their mistakes instead of using a little bit of less money to clean and maintain water for its citizens.
